SWYMERS Call A Chaplain

Start wherever you are. We will listen.

The pathway

Listen → Understand → Ask → Resource → Response

Your call begins the SWYMERS Intake & Response Process. It is a pastoral conversation, not a test. You do not have to explain everything, and you do not have to decide anything before you speak with a chaplain.

  1. Step 1

    Listen

You are heard first. You do not need the right words to begin.

  2. Step 2

    Understand

The chaplain seeks to understand what you are carrying and what you need.

  3. Step 3

    Ask

The chaplain asks how you would like to participate and what you permit.

  4. Step 4

    Resource

Together you identify resources that may fit your situation.

  5. Step 5

    Response

Where you authorize it and it is appropriate, the chaplain helps you take a next step.

Your participation

Three ways to take part

Tier 1 — Anonymous Listening

Speak with a chaplain without giving your name or identifying information.

You may decline to share your name or identifying details and still be heard. Choosing anonymity can limit the referrals, documentation and follow-up SWYMERS is able to offer, because some resources require information the chaplain would not have.

Tier 2 — Confidential Intake

Identify yourself and permit the chaplain to document the needs you share.

You may choose to identify yourself and allow the chaplain to document the needs you describe according to SWYMERS policy. Documentation helps SWYMERS respond thoughtfully; it is never the condition for being listened to.

Tier 3 — Authorized Referral & Follow-Up

Authorize SWYMERS to help connect you to a resource and follow up with you.

You may authorize SWYMERS to assist with connecting you to an appropriate resource and, when appropriate, to follow up with you afterward. The chaplain explains what would be shared before anything is shared.

These are separate choices. Your identity preference, any future recording consent, and your referral permission are not the same consent, and agreeing to one never implies the others.

Your choice, your permission

You are heard before anything else

SWYMERS does not have to know who you are merely to listen. Before caller information is shared with an outside resource, or before an assisted referral is made, the chaplain explains what would be shared and asks your permission — except where applicable law or an immediate safety obligation requires action.

Identity preference

Whether you give your name is your choice, made at the start and revisitable during the call.

Recording consent

A future decision about call recording is a distinct choice. It is not consent to documentation or referral.

Referral permission

Permission to contact an outside resource on your behalf is asked for separately, each time it is needed.

We respect your privacy and handle information according to SWYMERS policy and applicable law. SWYMERS does not promise absolute anonymity or absolute confidentiality, and does not describe what you share as legally privileged.

Recording

Recording procedures are being finalized

Recording procedures are being finalized. Calls are not described as recorded at this time. If recording is enabled in the future, callers will receive an upfront disclosure and the applicable consent process before any substantive recording, and that consent will remain separate from documentation and referral permission.

The chaplain's role

What the chaplain does — and does not do

What the chaplain does

  • Listens without rushing you.
  • Seeks to understand your situation in your own words.
  • Documents according to the participation level you selected and SWYMERS policy.
  • Helps identify resources that may fit your needs.
  • Makes referrals you have authorized.
  • Follows up when you have authorized it and it is appropriate.

What the chaplain does not do

  • Does not provide emergency medical care.
  • Does not act as law enforcement or an investigative authority.
  • Does not substitute for licensed medical, mental-health, legal or other professional services.
  • Does not guarantee any particular outcome, benefit, placement or decision by another organization.

If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical or law-enforcement help, use your local emergency services right away rather than waiting for a chaplain.

How care is carried out

Public pathway and internal response model

Public pathway

LISTEN → UNDERSTAND → ASK → RESOURCE → RESPONSE

SWYMERS internal response model

LISTEN → UNDERSTAND → DOCUMENT → AUTHORIZED ASSISTANCE → RESOURCE → RESPONSE → FOLLOW-UP

Documentation is part of responsible care. It is never the condition for being heard.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What are the three participation tiers?

Anonymous Listening lets you speak without giving your name. Confidential Intake lets you identify yourself so the chaplain can document what you share. Authorized Referral & Follow-Up lets SWYMERS help connect you to a resource and follow up when appropriate. You can start at any tier and revisit your choice during the call.

Can I stay anonymous and still get help?

Yes. You may remain anonymous and still be heard. Choosing anonymity can limit the referrals or follow-up SWYMERS can offer, because some outside resources need information the chaplain would not have.

Is recording consent the same as referral permission?

No. Recording consent, documentation consent, and referral permission are three separate choices. Agreeing to one never implies the others. The chaplain asks for each permission separately, and you may change your mind during the call.

What does 'pending final policy/legal review' mean?

It means the detailed procedures for recording, confidentiality, data retention, referrals, mandatory reporting, and safety escalation are still being finalized. The page describes the model SWYMERS is building; it is not a final adopted policy. The website does not collect caller intake, and the telephone line is not yet active.

Will calls be recorded?

Calls are not described as recorded at this time. If recording is added in the future, callers will receive an upfront disclosure and a separate consent process before any substantive recording begins.

Serve as a chaplain

Chaplain credential readiness

People who wish to serve as a Mobile Chaplain or Pastoral Care Provider with GIFT / SWYMERS prepare, verify and maintain their credentials through our credential-readiness programme. It does not issue or imply a Florida state chaplain licence.

Recording, confidentiality, retention, referral-authorization and mandatory-reporting/safety-escalation procedures are pending final policy and legal review. This page explains the model SWYMERS is building; it does not represent an adopted final legal policy.

Call A Chaplain is a SWYMERS pathway within GIFT Green Pastures. No caller intake is collected through this website. The telephone line is in preparation and is not active.
